Hatha Yoga is good but Pranayama is 10 times faster at releasing Energy Blockages which stop the Enlightenment process. In Asana, body is kept motionless and as a result Prana(breath) and mind are brought under control. Patanjali expounded Yoga as having eight limbs. I have heard it described as "a state of spiritual ecstasy in which consciousness leaves the body." But this is not the whole phenomenon, as the breath stops and so does the beating of the heart. Please don't give up your asana practice, but instead, include in your Veda practice a conscious and deliberate effort of focusing on your breathing. Maybe it withdraws a little from time to time, for example when going to sleep - then the mind closes down as well, but when getting up, the mind is able to instantly pick up upacara- samadhi again.
